Report from Australia
Leading chef training college selected DIGI DS-520
 |
| 55 units of the DS-520R are lined up in Wedderburn Scales' workshop, for the final checking, prior to the installation, which started the first week of November. The College will start using the DS-520Rs in late January 2005 when the new class commences. |
Ultimo College in Sydney, one of the largest government run training colleges for chefs and associated culinary trades, has selected 55 units of DIGI DS-520, waterproof design weighing scale, for use in their commercial chef training facility.
The scales will be used for portion control purposes.
DIGI DS-520 was selected thanks to the unique and robust design of both of the DS-520's base-work and the stainless steel indicator, which provided the college with confidence that the units would stand up to the wet conditions. As many different students will use the scales, it was essential that they can cope with harsh treatment.

This is a very good showcase for DIGI, as it exposes DIGI products to people who will one day be responsible for selecting and purchasing scales for many restaurants throughout Sydney and other parts of the country.
The total order comprised 55 units of DS-520R and a DI-28SS with an SYAS base-work.
Thanks to Chen Tao and Shanghai Teraoka Electronic Co., Ltd. for help in securing this order, and arranging production and delivery to meet the college's very tight delivery timeframe.

Wedderburn Scales was honored to be selected and installed 4 units of DIGI Auto wrappers into this one site, including 2xAW-3600AT's in Butchery, one FX-3600XL in Seafood and another FX-3600XL in Produce. Foodstuffs Auckland now have over 60 units of the 3600 Series Auto wrappers installed in their stores. DIGI 3600 series has been highly recognized as a very reliable Auto wrapper. The reliability of the DIGI Auto wrapper and aftersales-service provided by Wedderburn are the reason for their selection.
Also installed at Pak'N Save Lincoln Road, were 8xSM-500's Touch Screen type, 2 units of DP-90's and one DPS-3600. All the DIGI equipment in Butchery, Seafood, Bakery, Deli and Produce is communicating via Ethernet. Wedderburn Scales feels very proud that the installation went very smoothly and the customer is very happy.
Foodstuffs Auckland and Wedderburn Scales have enjoyed a successful relationship for many years. The relationship started back in the 1970s with the first installation of DIGI electronic scale models.

Report from Ukraine
DIGI new checkout scale DS-980 launching successfully into the Ukrainian market
 |
| The modernized appearance of the ATB-Market supermarket in Dnepropetrovsk |
Sergey Chernyushok, Sales/Project Manager of DATECS Ukraine reports the successful presence of DIGI Checkout Scale in the Ukrainian retail market. He gladly announces that ATB-Market, the biggest national chain in Ukraine, has chosen the DS-980PS (Scanner scale Type), in conjunction with the DS-860PS (Scanner Scale type), the former Checkout Scale model in 2003.
In 2003, this chain installed 95 units of the DS-860 PS, which has proved to be a successful solver of their operation challenges, which led to the installation of the new Checkout Scale DS-980 with their great enthusiasm.
DIGI checkout scales has created new possibilities and given advantages to customers.
In the Ukraine, the checkout scales are used to have additional control for pre-packed products at the cashier desk. Cashiers check the correctness of the weighed products. We can say the checkout scales prevent sales from incorrectly weighing products 95% of the time. This function, in combination with the simplicity of use, makes the DS-980 very popular.
 |
| DS-980 in operation at the supermarket in Dnepropetrovsk. DATECS Ukraine has installed DS-980 PS (Magellan scanner 8100) the same as the DS-860PS. |
Also we can point out other features for the success.
- avoiding mistakes caused by incorrect scanning
- saving both operation & maintenance cost
- space saving design and simplicity of the installation
- compatibility with equipment such as POS, ECR, scanners, conveyors etc.,
- theft protective equipment
In 2004, we have already contracted with ATB-Market for the installation of 120 units of the DS-980's. The success has resulted from high quality, flexible and due-in-time supply from DIGI, and high quality service of our regional dealer to end-user.
Our regional dealer VVS-Service says, "This chain uses checkout scales to weigh the products at the cashier desk. This usage is not well known in the world although this approach is not new. Weighing pre-packed products at cashier desks is economically profitable and reasonable. The best evidence is the successful installation of the DS-980 in the Ukraine."
We say, "This model completely satisfies the needs of the client. In the Ukraine we can predict the success of the DS-980. Also we wish the good start for kicking off this model all around the world and among the DIGI Family members."
(Reported by Sergey Chernyushok, Sales/Project Manager of DATECS Ukraine)
The DS-980 best fits the needs at the store front checkout counters of supermarkets
Mr. Shi Guo Xing, Managing Director of Shanghai Teraoka Electronic Co., Ltd. tells us, "In terms of features of the DS-980, three points are very important for supermarket's operations in many countries."
1. Weighing speed
It is as short as 0.5 sec to 0.7 sec for the stability of weighing. It is very important for the checkout speed in the supermarket.
2. ECR/POS protocols
We implemented almost 95% of POS/ECR protocols based on RS-232C among well known brands in the world, therefore the customer could simply connect DS-980 to existing POS/ECR and it works.
3. Adoptability of scanner
Scanners from major manufacturers could be built-in the scale easily, such as PSC Megallan, Metrologic, NCR and so on.
