Report from Netherlands
Albert Heijn placed the single order of 1150 DIGI machines with RF communication.
 |
| Leon van Besauw, Managing Director of DIGI Nederland B.V. explained to Albert Heijn, the benefit of investing in new scales. |
"Albert Heijn, the Ahold supermarket chain and a market leader in the Netherlands, selected DIGI again for the replacement of over 1000 units of DIGI SM-60's, and the installation was just completed, totally rolled-out in 300 shops." Leon Van Besauw, Managing Director of DIGI Netherland B.V, proudly announced this news.
"The decision by the retail giant was brought to DIGI Nederland late last November 2004, with a single order of total 1150 units of DIGI Scales. This included 300 DP-90 Label Printers, 350 SM-300BS (Self Service type) and 500 SM-500P (Pole type) with large LCD colour display. All the machines will be connected through RF wireless communication.
"The wireless communication system was a great benefit to free the layout of machines for retailers operations. DIGI Netherlands started wireless RF communication installations over two years ago with successful installations at supermarket chains such as Makro (Metro), Laurus (Casino), Hema (KBB), Prisma (Sligro) and others.

"The hurdle we had to overcome was that the whole installation had to be done with a tight installation schedule of only 3 months. This meant an improvisation at the production site at Teraoka Weigh-System Pte. Ltd. (Teraoka Singapore). Of course we triumphed over their request with the cooperation of Managing Director Akihiko Kuroiwa of Teraoka Singapore and his dynamic team.
"The high tech performance of DIGI and the high production capability brought the big single order to DIGI Nederland. The business relationship between DIGI and Albert Heijn dates back to the early 80's of the last century and we feel very proud that the reliable relationship remains and once again reached to a higher level this time."

DIGI counting scale DC-200, scanner and inventory management software revolutionizes factory operation in the USA
 |
| From left to right: Paul Gerard of Advance Scale Company, Dennis Maston and Chris Santarpio, the three gentlemen that secured the DC-200 sales. |
Ann Crowley, Product Manager of Rice Lake Weighing System in the USA, reports a recent application success.
"Rice Lake Weighing Systems recently fulfilled an order through one of our dealers, Advance Scale Company, for a new inventory application. It resulted in the order of 34 sets of DC-200 counting scales and QS6000 scanners, and inventory software. Paul Gerard of Advance Scale noted, "They chose the DC-200 due to its strong performance in side-by-side comparisons with competitive products." They also favored the DC-200's quick updates and large display. Cost was not a factor.
The system was completed by adding Rice Lake's new inventory management software, IMS.
"This inventory application required precise counting of secured documents. Previously the company performed all of their counting and inventory management manually, which was time consuming and there was always a chance for error.
"With the DC-200s installed, now the company's central office sends a specified number of documents to an off-site location.
At the off-site location, a supervisor verifies that the quantity of documents matches their order. Once the documents are filled out, they are signed off as complete and returned.
"Back at the central office, the operator scans the signed supervisor's key sheet. In order for the DC-200 to interpret the preprinted bar codes, the QS6000 automatically adds the required identifier code when it scans the documents. The "IN"mode of the DC- 200 is used to add to inventory. A 32-port serial board was added to their PC to network the scales. The IMS is used to configure output data to the ACCESS database to instantly create accountability reports.
"This inventory application is only executed three times a year, but these times are mission critical. During these periods, this company generates 60% of its annual revenue. By using counting scales, the company has achieved a 50% reduction in the cost of labor. The scales return on investment was less than two weeks. Accuracy is paramount, and the DC-200, scanner, and IMS deliver!"

Another world-first, the SM-880 (Transparent Display Type) made its debut in an up-scale bakery and delicatessen shop in Tokyo
 |
| The first unit of the SM-880 Transparent Display type was installed at the up-scale delicatessen shop in Tokyo. |
On February 1st, the first unit of the SM-880 was installed at Hillside Pantry Daikanyama, located close to Shibuya, downtown Tokyo, which is very famous as a high-class and modern living area in Tokyo. The reason the shop selected DIGI's new concept service scale printer was the transparent display built-into the scale which fits with the image of the shop. There are also three units of DIGI POS ECR WebRise in operation. The WebRise received the "Good Design" Award in Japan. The WebRise (Linux based) features an A-4 size space saving design and tall operator-keypad. The functions of equipment, of course, are the most important factor for selection, but DIGI can also provide the superiority of design to fit a variety of shops.
In your country, you will soon find the SM-880 Transparent Display Type on sales counters in shops near your home.
