Malatya Pazari, one of the oldest nut and dried fruit shops in Istanbul’s Egyptian Bazaar in the heart of the old city, is very popular with tourists visiting Istanbul.

Among Turkish retailers, the DIGI brand is well-known for price-computing and system scales as well as wrapping equipment. Now PC-based scales have also been introduced in Turkey.

The first instalation of 10 units of SM-5500 took place at Malatya Pazari, one of the oldest nut and dried fruit shops, in Istanbul’s Egyptian Bazaar. This store, in the heart of the old city, was established in 1870 and is very popular with tourists visiting Istanbul.

Malatya Pazari chose DIGI and particularly the SM-5500 model for the following features:

  • All scales at the store are available for all clerks thanks to SM-5500’s floating clerk function. This flexibility reduces the need for extra staff.
  • Clerks only have to touch their own picture on the screen to receive sales totals, refunds and sales details about the customers they serve.
  • For international visitors, product photos appear on the screen and receipts are printed in English with currencies such as USD and Euro. This helps avoid misunderstanding and provides a great service for international visitors.
  • For traditional Turkish products, the pictures, details, and recipes/cooking instructions are displayed in multi-languages.
  • A video of Malatya Pazari’s history shows on the screen and adds to brand appreciation.
  • Receipts show all sales transactions, price and totals in any currency chosen and the name of the clerk is also shown for eventual follow-up.
  • Sales data can be transferred to POS ECR if required.
  • Wireless communication is essential in historical buildings to protect the environment
  • Authorized personnel can make special discounts for select customers.
  • Inventory management and control is possible at the scale level without any additional software investment.
  • The Egyptian Bazaar is very crowded during the day and therefore quick sales transactions with just one touch is highly appreciated.
  • All sales reports can be accessed throughout the day and at closing.
  • The printing mechanism opening from the front is an advantage with limited space and high customer volume.
  • Operating instructions and in-house training can be monitored from a distance. Label uploading, basic maintenance and wrapping instructions are those most frequently used.
  • Regular and important customers can transmit orders online to be prepared during off peak hours.

We are proud to say that the management of Malatya Pazari was highly impressed with the above features of the DIGI SM-5500 and relied on us at DiGi/Fiter to oversee the project installation.
