Novum sets a new standard with RM-5800 in Czech’s retail market

Tempo, a part of the local COOP group, totally embraced the RM-5800 for their network solution

We are excited to report Novum’s third installation of the RM-5800 for network solution, at Tempo, which is part of the local COOP network.

Our relationship with Tempo is a long one and dates back to 1996, when we equipped their first supermarket with four DIGI SM-25A and two DIGI SM-25B scales. Later on, we delivered additional SM-25’s to three more big outlets of the related COOP chain. Smaller shops of the COOP network use the DIGI DS-650, Price Computing Scale which they are still “Happy” to buy. After the SM-300 was introduced, we replaced the aging SM- 25’s with the SM-300’s, and then later we added some SM-100’s.

This year, we supplied some DIGI SM-5100BS scales to the fruit and vegetable section of one of the markets.

The latest installation is the one that excited us most – the installation of a RM-5800 network that we installed together with our long time local software partner.

Novum has decided to approach the sales of the RM-5800 series in three directions:

• Selling hardware to local software partners
• Competing in the market with new customers who do not have established software connections, with DIGI MAXPOS connected to our back office software
• Offering a cloud-based software solution, which includes the hardware, the software, SLA and additional services (such as loyalty system management and data management), all for a fixed monthly fee. We aim to attract 20% of the independent butchers’ market over the next 3 years with this approach.

If working with local software companies proves to be successful, we will gain market share with the RM-5800 as we see its uniqueness in the market. As the software market is already quite mature we have decided to cooperate with the local software companies rather than fighting them. Naturally in those places where we find a way to support our own solution we prefer that way.

There are several potential local customers interested in the RM-5800. Although the upcoming months (or even years), seem to forecast complicated times in Europe in general and in our region (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary) in particular, we are putting all our energy in this model RM-5800 for the local market.
