Multi-Store Labeling Challenges Solved Through DIGIweb

Shetlers Discount Grocery owned by Andy Shetler, has been serving customers since 1999 and operates three stores across Cabool, Norwood, and Seymour, Missouri. Their product mix includes deli meats, frozen proteins, bulk ingredients, and salvage products.

"Some of the products we get in do not have retail labels. We deal a lot in the market of salvage grocery."

Before partnering with DIGI, Rosetta relied on older scales that were not as efficient, which made labeling timeconsuming and difficult to keep consistent across departments and stores. Managing labeling across multiple locations created challenges in consistency, compliance and efficiency, especially with 10 scales spanning several departments per store.

Challenges before DIGIweb:

  • Manual Updates: Each new product required 20+ minutes to create a label on individual scales.
  • Inefficient Communication: Price changes had to be emailed to other stores, creating delays and inconsistencies.
  • Limited Search Functionality: Employees relied on printed PLU books, making product lookup cumbersome.
  • Training Burden: Staff needed guidance for manual entries, increasing operational complexity

Through their ongoing relationship with DIGI America dealer Four State Equipment, Shetlers made the decision to adopt the SM-5300X B scales and DIGIweb to address these challenges across all ten devices.

With products that frequently require custom ingredient statements, descriptions, and pricing, Shetlers needed a centralized system capable of supporting multiple stores and devices at once.

Due to products lacking consumer-ready packaging, by being in bulk or mixed pallets where only the outer case contains a label, Shetlers' team would need to create accurate consumer-facing labels.

"We use DIGIweb to create the description, copy and paste the ingredients and this is helpful as we have a large variety of products that we put labels on."

Shetlers' overall goal was to streamline workflows while maintaining consistency across all departments and stores.

The DIGIweb platform, paired with SM-5300X B scales, offered Shetlers a unified, cloud-based labeling system that provides real-time updates across all locations. From a single interface, the team can manage product data, pricing, and ingredient information automatically pushing updates to all ten scales.

"It's easy to run and I like that I can make changes myself without waiting on someone else." - Rosetta Hostetler

Each department: meat, bulk, produce, frozen, and deli now uses standardized labels created through DIGIweb, improving consistency and accuracy.

Results & Benefits:

  • Time Savings: Reduced label creation time from 20 minutes per scale to a single entry for all locations.
  • Consistency: Eliminated discrepancies in pricing and labeling across stores.
  • Operational Efficiency: No more emailing price lists or sending pictures for manual updates.
  • Employee Productivity: Simplified workflows with easy search and centralized updates.

Total Devices: 10 SM-5300X B scales across 3 stores.
This multi-store deployment demonstrates DIGIweb's scalability and ease of use for growing retailers
