RetailAW Lashford & Sons, a Midlands-based sausage manufacturer since 1889, are now seeing the benefits of DIGI’s AW-5600ATII weigh-wrap-labellers. Utilising two machines, the first has an automatic infeed, linerless top and base labelling and a right hand side outfeed. The second AW-5600ATII as an overflow wrapper, again with linerless top and bottom labelling.
Due to impressive business growth, the customer required an upgrade from the solution they had at the time. Ongoing issues with software paired with a manual wrapping and labelling process meant that production times were holding them back. The customer had stressed that the user-interface had to be simple and straightforward for their employees to operate. On top of this, it was crucial that weighing, wrapping and labelling lead times were cut down in order to meet demand for leading supermarkets and retailers.
After consultation, the customer opted for two AT-5600ATII wrappers with linerless top and bottom label application. To facilitate their growing demand, one wrapper operates as the main station and the other as a backup/overflow. The customer also requested their labels to include a QR code linking to their website as well as traceability to be shown with nutrition facts, so that consumers know exactly what they are consuming.
The customer’s one concern when moving to the new system was the ease of operating a new machine. They have since told us they’re very happy, finding the AW-5600ATII’s operating system more user friendly than previous solutions and even temporary staff need shorter operator training time to work on the line. Before installation, the customer was packing 10 packs per minute and labelling by hand and are now achieving of a pack rate of 25 per minute.
